Why your vehicle's options change the glass
Rain sensors, cameras, heated areas, acoustic layers, and HUD — and why we ask about them.
One model year can have several different windshields. The difference is usually in what's built into or mounted on the glass.
- Rain sensors that turn on wipers automatically
- Forward cameras for lane and collision features
- Heated wiper park areas or fully heated glass
- Acoustic layers that reduce road noise
- Special zones for head-up displays (HUD)
What a VIN can and can't tell us
A VIN reliably identifies the vehicle — year, make, model, and often trim. It does not reliably identify which windshield was installed. That's why we ask a few questions and may request a photo of the area behind your mirror.
